Interesting topics that our esteemed Mr. Williams had us presenting to our fellow students tonight. Podcast's and Wiki's. Two very common things that most of us take for granted as we bounce around the net day in and day out.
A podcast put simply is an information delivery system that users can subscribe to or take a look at either through their computers with an internet connection, your ipod or of course iphone, or similar media device using a program like itunes or windows media player. I only mention the ipod because of the inherent name of a podcast. Podcasts are used for a variety of different reasons, but mostly to inform or entertain. There are however, good ways to put podcasts to use to make revenue. Thats the meat and potatoes of it, and Mr. Williams has me quite enthused about future projects involving them.
My second topic of mention tonight...Wiki's. How many people knew this wasn't an abbreviation or short slang word. Wiki isn't either. It is the Hawaiian word for fast. Plain and simple, which kinda got a little laugh out of me. Now, everybody has used a Wiki before, but what it actually is surprised me. It's essentially and editable web page where more than one user, or any user can post information about whatever specific topic they want to talk about. So while a lot of us use Wiki's for information, which is a good thing, chances are you are reading someones opinion about something, and not neccessarily a fact. This doesnt limit people's uses of them, or trust in them, and a lot of good information can be found in them as well. Ive bounced around several wiki's over the years and never considered editing them at all, or even wanted to, but that doesnt mean the guy after me wont. It's been a fun and informative evening so far, and our teacher like I said, has me quite excited about future blogging, wiki, and podcasts. So stay tuned and follow along.
